IN MEMORY OF THE FORGOTTEN MOTHERS
Mother's Day is this weekend but unfortunately for many mothers it is going to be a day of misery.
The dairy industry encourages us to believe that cows naturally produce milk for human consumption. In reality, cows lactate to feed their babies. These babies are torn from their mothers just days after birth so that humans can take their milk. Cows and their calves form strong bonds and this separation causes the mother intense distress.
Their babies are either slaughtered - 700,000 per year in Australia - or forced into the same cruel cycle of constant pregnancies and loss of their babies.
Cows can live for 20 years, but a dairy cow is killed at 3-5 years old*, when her exhausted body stops producing profitable quantities of milk. Dairy is a slaughter industry just the same as meat production.
